Charles Kohler invests significantly in the Natoma Water and Mining Company of Sacramento. He manages the planting of 2,000 acres of grapes. In 1885 the Company builds a large winery called the California Winery. The building is

still there on the corner of Hazel Avenue and Folsom Blvd.
